Audrey V.

A note from Audrey’s granddaughter: My nana is 92 years old. She lost her husband in March 2024 after a difficult battle with cancer. After his death, she had to move from their home in Canada to Ohio as she cannot care for herself without assistance. As expected, she is struggling with the enormous changes in her life over the last year and could use a little pick me up. Nana loves to read and loves nature (flowers, cardinals, hummingbirds, the ocean). She is learning to play the piano and although her mind is not as sharp as it once was, she still loves to joke and has a fantastic sense of humor!

Nancy

A note from Nancy’s granddaughter: Nancy has lived on her own for the last 30 years since her husband passed away after raising four boys together. Nancy has eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren! She enjoys watching the birds and the squirrels through her sliding glass window. She loves visits from her grandchildren and their children and loves to have everyone around the table for Sunday meals, which are few and far between these days. She loves big get-togethers in the yard in the summer with extended family and friends. To this day, my grandmother is excellent at board games and rarely loses at anything. She would love to receive interesting letters from you!

Don

A note from Don’s daughter: My dad is 92 years young and lives alone in a home in Minneapolis, where he has lived for over 65 years! He lost his one and only wife 15 years ago, and his mobility is limited particularly during winter months. He gets out to go to church weekly as he is a devout Catholic who believes in the power of prayer. He started reading the Bible from front to back cover within the last several years and is reading it fully for a second time! He is a collector of carbide cannons. He loves to ride his bike and although he took a couple of falls last summer, he still hopes to get out on it again one day. He is a very neighborly and wonderful loving man who deserves some love in return. He could use a little pick me up as the winter was very long!

Sylvia

A note from Sylvia’s niece: Sylvia is 1 of 8 siblings raised in a small Southern California town. She was raised along with her older siblings surrounded by the deepest love, and lots of family on her parent’s chicken ranch. She played baseball as a young girl and the love of the game is still with her! As a young woman she sang in a band, became a hair stylist, and married a soldier. Together, they raised a beautiful family right next to the chicken ranch. Sylvia is immediately loved by everyone she meets. She just celebrated her 80th Valentine’s Day Birthday and could use some extra love!

Andy

A note from Andy’s daughter: My Dad loves gardening! Last year he really got into it and planted everything he could, even growing plants up to 12 ft tall. If you include a seed pack he will plant them and be tickled. He has an Australian German Shepherd named Misty who is his best friend. He likes visiting the state park near me, horses, fishing and can fix anything mechanical! He has had a lot of health issues this year including 2 surgeries and is waiting on another. I moved in to take care of him because he needs the help. Most of his friends have passed away, as well as his parents, and his girlfriend of 15+ years about 5 years ago. He is very lonely and doesn't like to do anything without Misty. My dad likes eagles, cowboy movies and is Christian. He would love to receive letters from you to help with his loneliness!

Maria

A note from Maria’s granddaughter: Maria is the sweetest kindest person you'll meet. She is the kind of person who gives and never expects anything back! She is 76 but she doesn't know the definition of rest. However, her knees aren't like they used to be, so she has to be cautious despite her not wanting to. Her current goal is to get a step pad. My grandmother lost my grandfather a year ago and she now lives alone in her little condo where my family tries to visit her as often as they can. She loves Telenovelas (TV dramas) and she loves to cook tamales. She loves arts and crafts, so if you love something she can surely remake it – she is a DIY queen! My grandma would cherish these letters because she would love to hear from the world around her; it would bring her so much joy to receive the love. She speaks Spanish but she can read and speak English well.

Alan

A note from Alan’s daughter: My father is 87 years old and from Cleveland, Ohio. He has always taken amazing care of others and is so generous and kind. Over the past many years, he focused his life on caring for my mom who was ill. She died last year, and he now has a lot of time on his hands. He loves to follow the news, read the newspaper and listen to Classical music! He also loves dogs and is thinking of fostering one. He has given so much of his life to others, I would love for him to feel a little love from your letters!

Ruth

A note from Ruth’s daughter-in-law: Ruth loves to read, enjoys Hallmark movies, and plays games that challenge her mind! Ruth lost her husband in 2013 but is blessed to live near her son and his family. She was an avid letter writer but the number of people that are able or around to write back is dwindling. Ruth would love to hear other people's stories and enjoys learning about new places or topics. Uplifting and fun letters would really brighten Ruth's day!

Margaret

A note from Margaret’s daughter: My mom is 88 and used to clog dance weekly up until a few years ago! We had to move her out of her home after our dad passed away. She has dementia and isn’t very mobile. Her health spiraled downhill after she took a fall in 2020 and she could not clog dance anymore. Then Covid happened not long after and she couldn’t get out much for fear of getting sick, and she seemed to have just given up on living. Some family and friends have passed away recently and her only joy is our little dog she said she can’t live without. She would love to read some letters that are encouraging and happy!

Marilyn

A note from Marilyn’s granddaughter: My grandma turned 92 and has been having a tough time. She's losing her hearing and her sight is getting worse everyday. We moved her into a new house this past summer because she can still live alone, and she's been having some trouble adjusting to the new space. We see her every 1-2 weeks and call her a few times a week, but I know she is lonely and bored. My grandpa died 20+ years ago, so she's used to being alone, but is struggling whilst losing her independence. She was a piano teacher for many years, an excellent golfer who won many championships, and absolutely adores her Border Collie, Bella! She loves historical fiction books, Golden Girls, dogs, and classical music. She can no longer drive or play piano, and watching tv and reading can be difficult, but her mind is still super sharp and I'm sure she would just love to read some of your letters!

Cookie

A note from Cookie’s daughter: Last year, Cookie lost her husband of 57 years. She was a caregiver to him while he was sick. Long ago, she and the family settled in Northern California and were employed owning two small Italian delis. They loved their businesses and their community! Cookie grew up in Los Angeles and always tells her childhood stories which happened at the beach but moved to Santa Rosa in 1982. She loves watching movies, loves to listen to Motown and doo-wop music! She is strength personified but could really use some encouragement and love to lift her spirits.

Kevin

A note from Kevin’s friend: Kevin is a wonderful man whose wife passed away just over a year ago. He has been so lonely, and he didn't have many friends outside of his marriage. He isn't tech savvy so he doesn't use social media. He gets lost easily so he doesn't venture out in his car very often. I've been encouraging him to join local groups but because he is "map challenged", he has a real fear of getting lost. He enjoys watching old movies and keeping up with our current events! He regularly attends his local catholic church. I know that he would be absolutely thrilled to receive love letters from you to keep his mind busy!
